Is the decision coming this week? Answer: NO

Rumor reported by AmericaBlog that the Prop8 decision is coming Thursday. The San Francisco PD is dropping off crowd control barriers in the Castro.

Keep an eye the California Supreme Court website where they will post an announcement on Wednesday to tell us what decisions are coming. Full opinions are released on Monday and Thursday mornings at 10am. (Except next week, it would be Tuesday because of the holiday). I've discussed the issues at length on this blog, most recently here.

And to remind us of why this matters:
Tonight, surrounded by his family.... Kenneth took his last assisted breaths in a hospital known for its “compassion and care” in the area. His family held his hands and whispered their loving goodbyes while the life slipped from his body and he went to his rest. A sudden heart attack claimed him. ..... In the parking lot, Bob, his partner of 26 years, said goodbye to a photograph....

The hospital, at the behest of Kenneth’s family, had banned Bob from Kenneth’s room, or seeing him in the hospital at all. 26 years treated as though they were mere passing acquaintances or work colleagues. Simply because Kenneth’s family could never accept their son’s orientation... Tonight, a nurse sympathetic to Bob’s situation and in violation of the hospital policies, came to the car window and delivered the news to Bob that Kenneth was gone. And Bob said his goodbyes and wishes of love and peace to a picture....

Marriage MATTERS.

Update; no decision this week. Probably wise as tomorrow is the anniversary of the White Night Riots and the 22nd is Harvey Milk's Birthday--at least one blogger reports that someone figured this out and scuppered the announcement at the last minute because of the date. Keep an eye out Friday to see if they will announce for Tuesday next week. There are three possible dates left for the opinion: May 26 or 28, and June 1.

Damn, that makes me so mad! I shall not say more. I do not customarily speak that way, especially in polite company.

I wouldn't be so sure it's not tomorrow...the SC site says they are "generally" annouced the day before...they may not want lots of advanced warning on this one, whichever way it goes...

Yes, but what the site actually says now is,
"May 20 2009 -- No opinions were announced for filing on Thursday, May 21, 2009."

Doesn't that imply no opinions?

That would be pretty cagey (and unpopular) not to announce it...

Another blog is reporting that Gavin Newsom noticed the date and suggested it would be inauspicious.

Do you think the crowd control barriers are there because of a decision (that might have been leaked out to gov't public safety people) that will anger people in the Castro? Or would be the barriers be there for a decision that goes either way?

Well, Marko, the Castro is given to big street celebrations not just protests. And I bet they did not tell anyone what the decision IS. But I am expecting the worst.

They are getting ready for the Memorial Day parades.

Uh, no, not in the Castro.
