California Episcopal Bishops Oppose Prop. 8

California's six most senior Episcopal bishops Wednesday unanimously declared their opposition to a constitutional amendment on the statewide November ballot that would ban same-sex marriage.

The bishops argued that preserving the right of gays and lesbians to marry would enhance the "Christian values" of monogamy, love and commitment.

Bravo! It's great to see the bishops take the lead in doing the right thing.

Yup, but pretty words are not enough--not when the RC and Mormons are mobilizing people on the streets, powered by lies, to work the neighborhoods door to door (see my previous post below).

If "our side" doesn't get out the vote and pay for the advertisements we will lose. The right wingers are now Palin-powered.

So I'm glad that the Bishops "came out", so to speak, but now we have to see the rubber meet the road.

WHat fascinates me is that many uninformed right-wing voters (seems like a lot of right-wingers are uninformed about reality) mistakenly believe Prop 8 will actually criminalize same-sex relationships (or even criminalize same-sex relationships). The whole Prop 8 thing really serves their bigotry. The whole Prop 8 vote is really a cynical "vote against the gays." I had a friend who was gay-bashed in the Christ-haunted U.S. South last week. He was hospitalized for three days with internal bleeding. Sometimes I think we are still in the dark ages and not in the 21st century. I am so weary of all the right-wing christianist bigotry. The VP campaign of Governor Gump, a.k.a. as Sarah Palin, has no doubt exacerbated the bigot mentality.
