If you vote for the Democrat, you will go to hell

That's what the Catholic Bishop of Springfield IL says.
People of faith object to these platform positions that promote serious sins.....I am saying that you need to think and pray very carefully about your vote, because a vote for a candidate who promotes actions or behaviors that are intrinsically evil and gravely sinful makes you morally complicit and places the eternal salvation of your own soul in serious jeopardy.
Okay, so the more than 50% of Roman Catholics currently polling for Obama are bound for hell.

Good to know.  You might want to pass that along.

Meanwhile, more from the Archbishop of Newark (mentioned in my previous post) who said that Catholics who support marriage equality are ineligible for Communion. That wasn't all he said.  John Becker writes in the HuffPo:
Myers also says that in considering how to cast their ballots in November, Catholics should scrutinize the "full spectrum" of each candidate and not vote for any candidate who does not endorse what he calls "proper" marriage. He also supports gay people marrying non-gay spouses; according to The Record, Myers "wrote that it is possible for gay people to be married to members of the opposite sex and live 'good, faithful and even joyous married lives. It is a lie to say that they are living, or have lived, a lie.'" Finally, Archbishop Myers compares same-sex marriage to incest....
Let me be clear: When Archbishop Myers says that Catholics who don't subscribe to that church's Stone-Age sexual mores are unworthy of full participation in the church, he's not talking about a small sliver of the Catholic population. On the contrary, polls consistently show that Catholics support LGBT equality at a higher rate than the general public. In fact, a whopping 71 percent of Catholics support full civil marriage rights for same-sex couples.
Have the RC Bishops finally  jumped the shark?

From Andrew Sullivan, a picture of the Catholic Vote.  He writes,
A small word of thanks to Cardinal Dolan, Robert George and K-Lo for helping shift the Catholic vote massively toward Obama with their summer campaign for religious liberty. And special thanks to Paul Ryan. No actual Catholic could ever find anything but puerile cruelty in the works of Ayn Rand, or rally to the idea that home-care for the elderly should be sacrificed to reduce tax rates for the super-rich. Paul Ryan believes that the basic principles of Rand can be compatible with Catholicism. American Catholics are just not that dumb or confused about their faith.

K-Lo?

Re the RCC (under Popoid admin), there's not much more to say. A disgrace to the Gospel AND the Constitution!

Speaking from the perspective of a former RC with a theological education, the Roman Catholic Church began the long ugly slide into irrelevancy with Pope Paul VI's publication of Humanae Vitae, the encyclical on birth control. The loss of credibility among PRACTICING Roman Catholics is incalculable. The RC bishops increasingly strident and shrill actions are a frantic and futile attempt to regain control. It's been fascinating to watch from the outside these past eleven years. It's been a blessing for me to have found the Episcopal Church, and a healing for me to no longer burn with rage against my church.

Hi Lou,
My wife also swam the Thames (although more recently). I think you are right. "Pay pray and obey" doesn't work in a modern era where the laity are educated and empowered.
