Where's Counterlight when you need him?

We're visiting my parents in the Bay Area and went to the "post-impressionist" exhibition at the De Young Museum. This is the 2nd half of a paired exhibition of amazing pieces from the Musée d'Orsay in paris which is undergoing renovation. This half featured Cezanne, Van Gogh, Seurat, and Gauguin, as well as Maurice Denis, the Nabis (who knew?) and others. A few Renoir and Monet to set the stage. I wish we'd been able to get up here to see the first half too (Mom and Dad of course are members and saw both halves.) And I REALLY wish I could walk through this exhibition with our friend Counterlight's eyes and knowledge!

This is a well-travelled exhibition! I saw it at the Australian national gallery in Canberra. The Van Gogh's really were brilliant.

We went to the Van Gogh exhibit at the DeYoung back in the early '70s... (lines wrapped all around the park to get in) --it was a life changer.

The only national showing of a new Picasso show is coming to Richmond. Y'all come on!

Counterlight is still around writing his blog with the usual mix of cranky opinionated ranting and poor attempts at humor, together with more serious attempts to figure out what it all means and why we bother by way of the language of art.

I wrote a nice piece (I thought so anyway) on Mad Men and advertising recently.
