Argentina legalizes same-sex marriage

From CNN:
Argentina became the first Latin American country on Thursday to legalize same-sex marriage. Lawmakers in the Senate passed the bill after 14 hours of debate that began Wednesday and carried well into early Thursday morning, the state-run Telam news agency reported. The bill had already passed the lower chamber of Congress. It gives same-sex couples equal marriage rights, including the ability to adopt children. The law was backed by the center-left government of President Cristina Kirchner, who has said she will sign it.

And guess which two religions mobilized their flocks to protest in all ways possible? One of the two used their unpaid foot soldiers as the front line. Yes, the same odd pairing that worked their magic in the United States.

More commentary from Glenn Greenwald : The Catholic Church in Argentina vehemently opposed the enactment of this law. But no matter. Ending discrimination against same-sex couples is understood as a matter of basic equality, not social progressivism, and it thus commands widespread support.

The contrast with the U.S. is quite instructive and depressing.

And in the US, NOM has a bus tour around the midwest and east promoting bias. If they come near you make sure they hear a peaceful counterprotest.

Here's news from teh first protest in Maine.
