Prop8 problems

New poll suggests that younger voters are shifting to support Prop8--the amendment to ban gay marriage in CA. The latest poll suggests that it may actually pass.

I don't get it...Are they supposed to be pissed off at Gavin Newsome and giving him the finger?! How mature is that?

I'll make another donation, IT. Keep the faith.

???? WTF!

My two friends are very active in this and I have donated.

This is essential - and the impact is far beyond the California border.

Sorry, that was me up there being depressed.

I'm getting married this weekend.

I hope I am married longer than 3 weeks.

More from the campaign: the pro-8 bigots have a $25 million war chest. The equality campaign has only $15 million.

The pro-8 bigots are winning by telling lies about church status if gay marriage is legal.

We have to counter the lies.

There are not enough ads out there calling out the bigots--remember they have $10million more than we do.

This stinks. I'm getting more and more depressed about the elections generally, but I will do what I can to help. This has got to come out right.

The "no" ads need to expose the liars for what they are, liars. That's the best type of commercial to run, now.

Here's today's L.A. Times story on this -- Foes of gay-marriage ban say poll shows Prop. 8 leading. The story says in part:

"Opponents of a campaign to ban same-sex marriage in California said Tuesday that a new poll shows them in danger of losing -- unless people step forward with more contributions to pay for No on 8 television commercials.

"The opposition has enjoyed a healthy lead in several surveys taken by polling organizations that do not have a stake in the campaign. But officials with the No on 8 campaign held a conference call with reporters Tuesday to announce that their own poll showed the measure would pass by four points. Opponents attributed the result to fewer television ads, which is, in turn, a result of the No on 8 campaign falling behind in fundraising.

****

"Smith [campaign manager for No on 8] also said his forces are being outspent in part because of a surge in contributions from Mormon Church members.

"'I don't think we have ever seen a single religion in the state . . . so significantly participate in one political campaign,' Smith said."

IT, the donation site is giving me grief over the "employer" blank. I've tried "retired", "librarian", "none", and, when I hit "donate", I get referred to the previous page for correction. I can send a check, but that will take time.

Mimi,
I don't know....You could try "self" in Employer, and Retired in the self-employed section? I entered a fake donation to test it and it seemed okay with that (did you fill in "occupation"? I filled in all three) Or send a check--it should only take a couple of days.

We thank you for your support.

BP and I asked our friends to donate instead of giving us gifts. Our wedding registry has raised $1402 so far.

So many people have said to me, "oh, it can't pass," with the complacency of being a liberal from San Francisco, or Berkeley, or something, but it can and it will unless we can compete with the hatred of the Mormons and the others!
