Canadian Diocese Says 'Yes' to Blessings

The assembly of the Anglican Parishes of the Central Interior (APCI) has requested its bishop, Gordon Light, to allow clergy whose conscience permits to bless civilly married gay couples where at least one party is baptized. The assembly passed the motion when it met October 17-19.

CANADA: Central Interior assembly says 'yes' to blessings

The Anglican Parishes of the Central Interior are part of the Anglican Church of Canada, and consist of the territory of the former Anglican Diocese of Cariboo in the interior of the province of British Columbia.

What is muddled in CA is that civil marriage is legal for gays, but only blessings in Church?

Not a bad thing if you believe that state and church should be separated, but isn't that the wrong way round somehow?

Sorry I meant Canada, not CA. I have CA on the brain as you have seen...

That's OK IT. Besides, 'ca' is the ISO country code for Canada anyway ;)

IT
it's no different from what is happening in the Episcopal Church in Massachusetts and California.

Only General Synod can change the canons, which currently restrict marriage to a union between a man and a woman. But the canons are silent on blessings of civil marriages, leaving room for dioceses to authorize such blessings. Hopefully there will be some change coming at GS 2010 (but any canonical change will take two successive General Synods)
