Honor

Being disgusted with the current goings-on of conservatives at all levels, and what seems to me to be a naked power-lust removed from concepts of honor and decency, I went to the dictionary to see what it had to say about "honor" to see I remembered it correctly Merriam-Webster said,
1 a: good name or public esteem : reputation b: a showing of usually merited respect
No, that's not it
2: privilege had the honor of joining the captain for dinner
No.
3: a person of superior standing —now used especially as a title for a holder of high office
I don't think so.
4: one whose worth brings respect or fame : credit an honor to the profession
None of that here
5: the center point of the upper half of an armorial escutcheon
You're kidding me. That's number 5???
6: an evidence or symbol of distinction: as a: an exalted title or rank b (1): badge, decoration (2): a ceremonial rite or observance ... c: an award in a contest or field of competition darchaic : a gesture of deference : bow eplural (1): an academic distinction conferred on a superior student (2): a course of study for superior students supplementing or replacing a regular course
Well....no
7: chastity, purity
And that's not archaic?
8 a: a keen sense of ethical conduct : integrity b: one's word given as a guarantee of performance

THAT'S IT!

No wonder we're in trouble, it's all the way down at definition number 8.

There is no honor in someone who willfully lies, deceives, and misleads for the sake of power--whether political or ecclesiastical.

There is no honor in the Republican Senators who privately say that McCain's temper is not appropriate for president, yet who endorse him anyway.

There is no honor in a candidate and campaign who lie about everything (ie, the support of the Bridge to Nowhere (she was before it before she was against it).

There is no honor in the Republicans who know Sarah Palin is completely unqualified for the office of VP, but who support her anyway.

There is no honor in sending operatives to Alaska to shut up the opposition and the corruption investigation.

There is no honor in a party that excoriates John Kerry's war service while going ballistic when Gen Wesley Clark points out the obvious fact that simply being a POW does not qualify McCain to be President.

And there is no honor left in a country that tolerates such naked grabs for power without demanding HONOR, decency, and integrity.

Another example of egregious behavior.
here's a special election for Senator in Mississippi, filling the seat that until recently was held for-freakin'-ever by Senate fixture Trent Lott. The newly appointed Republican interim Senator is facing a formidable Democratic challenger, and may in fact lose.

So what does Republican Gov. Haley Barbour (the former RNC chair) and the Republican Secretary of State do? They shuffle the placement of the race on the ballot in order to bury it. They put it last, under all the local and minor races, things like school board races and so on, so that it's difficult to find. They do their best to hide it, knowing that it will lower the response rate and help the Republican incumbent.

The problem is, it's plainly illegal. It's not "arguably" illegal, or "a little" illegal. It's just plain illegal.

Inotherwords to reduce the likelihood that people will vote for the Democrat, the Republicans will try to "hide" the election. But the LAW REQUIRES Federal elections are at the top of the ballot.

This is CORRUPTION, people. Election-stealing LIES AND CORRUPTION.

The commenter goes on,
This isn't "political hardball", or "an aggressive campaign strategy", or any of those other rancid euphemisms that we've taken to using in our national discourse instead of calling corruption out as corruption. Haley Barbour is doing an illegal thing because he thinks he can, and because doing an illegal thing will help his Party.

Are you outraged yet???? THees people may WIN ifyou aren't.

Tonight on CNN, commentators were wondering why McCain keeps repeating the lie about the Bridge to Nowhere when everyone knows it's a lie.

At the same time, CNN is getting email about their persecution of Governor Palin.

I don't think we are talking about rational discourse any more. This is more like tribal warfare. The truth has been irrelevant for a long time.

If McCain wins, we are looking at The Handmaid's Tale becoming a reality.

Do you remember the story Abraham Lincoln told about a man who was tarred-and-featherd then kicked out of town? Lincoln reported that the man said, "If it wasn't for the honor of the thing, I would have just walked." Honor, integrity, decency, morality, justice -- these are not Republican words. They are not words they understand. The GOP lexicon: bribe, lie, bigotry, hatred, selfish, uncaring, hypocrisy, resentment...

Preach it, brother! (Or sister, depending on who exactly wrote the post.)

Now McCain is running a vile ad accusing Obama of supporting legislation to offer comprehensive sex education to kindergartners. E. J. Dionne talks about this.
Does the Truth Matter Anymore?

Because if you repeat a lie often enough, people think it's the truth.

I am in New York this week and on the subway saw someone reading the NY Post (take with appropriate grain of salt) poll that showed a surge for McCain. If that is true, the U.S. (and Canada) are screwed.

*sigh* More about the lies in Palinology, an Obermann editorial here.

and Bill Maher ... McCain cancels CNN appearance with Larry King because of the way CNN's Campbell Brown pushed for answers about Palin's decisions as head of the National Guard - here. Story also here -- Brown went "over the line" in asking the questions.

Sister, James David W.

It's like the Bushite told the NY TImes. They don't live in reality, they create their own....and the dishonorable main-stream media colludes in it.

McCain KNOWS he's lying. I hope he gets called on it and loses his infamous temper o the country can see how vicious and without principle he has become.

I used to respect the man, years ago, but I have completely lost any of that.
