Five years at FoJ, and another personal milestone...

Some of you have known me, internet-wise, for close to 10 years.  We first started meeting on the Via Media site and at Father Jake's, discussing Bp Gene Robinson, the problems in Dio San Joaquin, and the conservative sabre-rattling.

We moved over here to FoJ in July 2008, where mine has been the main voice, all of us noting the irony of me being the tame atheist of the liberal Episco-blogosphere, busy proselytizing my wife on your behalf.  And here I've been ever since, opining on The Episcopal Church's business, discussing politics, and equality.

Meanwhile, the proselytizing worked!  My wife BP started swimming the Thames in 2009, finally pulled herself ashore in 2010, and  followed a new-found calling into a ministry of service at St Paul's Cathedral, San Diego: Acolyte.  Thurifer.  Verger.

And on Sunday, she was installed by the Dean as Head Verger of the Cathedral.

I am so very proud of her!  And proud to know you people, who have supported us both along the way.

CONGRATULATIONS BP!

The world could use more vergers.

Bless *you*, IT, for your support, your patience, sometimes cajoling, sometimes challenging, always loving response to my efforts at finding my way. This continues to be an amazing journey. Thank you ALL for your various contributions, for you have been with me, too. A friend at the "after party" asked if I felt any different, and I made a glib response. The next day--yesterday--I realized that it *does* feel different. In a completely surprising way, it "feels different" even away from the Cathedral. And "different", while hard to define, is good: partly confidence, partly serenity, somehow.

I'm at home, again, in my own skin.

¡Felicidades chavas!

Also glad to see you both step from the shadows and be able to put faces on the folks I have "known" these few years.

Cute guy alert!!!!

I just went through the extra photos in the link and there was a cute guy in the smoky shadows of the photo of the thurifer. I couldn't make out for sure if he was latino or Asian. He was definitely taller than I am!

And the blonde verger in the photo with BP is very cute!

Congratulations BP! This always seemed like the logical outcome, but logic does not take one through the journey of pain and love. I'm so glad that this is a story where love came through for all, that you found a church home, and that the church has found what a blessing it is to have you both part of its life.

And the award for "Shallow" goes to Dahveed!

...said JCF, empathetically. ;-/

Ah, the Verger: The only person that can tell the Dean where to go. Liturgically speaking, of course!

Congratulations!

Not just that, Tom--- she can even tell a BISHOP where to go. Actually, BP has developed a remarkable talent to direct clergy with eye movements, arched eyebrows, etc. I call her the Bishop-whisperer. (We are fortunate to have a very nice Bishop. :-)

Congratulations to the both of you. I don't know what we would do without you in the Episcopal Church!

Now, we must get down to the business of finding Brother Dahveed a date. . . .
