It's also the 44th anniversary of the landmark Loving v Virgina decision by the Supreme Court that overturned anti-miscegenation laws. It's Loving Day.

I also think of my favorite aunt and uncle (now both OBM). Similar to the Lovings, they were a white man (my mom's brother) who married a black woman---in 1965 (two years before Loving). This was in California, so it was legal (California was, famously, the FIRST state to overturn anti-miscegenation laws, in 1948---via the State Supreme Court). But they still faced a LOT of prejudice (inc. sadly, within their own families). But they endured, until my uncle's passing in 1995 (my aunt died last year).
