The truth is that if Maj. Nidal Hasan, the accused killer of 13 people at Fort Hood, had entered the officers club there with a nice handbag on his arm, perhaps a Gucci tote, he would have been out of the Army by the end of the week. Since he was merely antisocial, a misfit, an incompetent psychiatrist and a likely Islamic fanatic, he was retained and promoted. This says something about America. On the subject of gays, we are a tad nuts ourselves.I love that because it really points out the lunacy of the whole discourse. Just this week a Cardinal of the Catholic church has announced that gays and transgendered folk are hell-bound:
Homosexuals and transsexuals "will never enter the kingdom of heaven", a leading Roman Catholic cardinal [Javier Lozano Barragan] said on Wednesday.Uh-huh. Now, about those divorced people.....really? They can go to heaven, despite directly sinning against the words of Christ? Hmmmmm.....adultery yes, faithful gay no. And what about those celibate, gay Catholic priests, estimated at 30-50% of the priesthood. Them, neither.
....
"People are not born homosexual, they become homosexual, for different reasons: education issues or because they did not develop their own identity during adolescence. It may not be their fault, but acting against nature and the dignity of the human body is an insult to God," he said.
So if there aren't any GLBT people in heaven, how fabulous could it be?

I'm happy just knowing that our dear Javier is not on the invitation committee for heaven. Guess he'll be surprised to see the wife of a transgender person there!
I am reminded of the old joke about someone dying, going to heaven, being shown around by Saint Peter--and he sees a big wall running around one particular compound. He asks St. P. what's behind the wall, and St. Peter says, "Shhh--that's the Catholics; they think they are the only ones here!!"
Though later versions had it as the Baptists or any other exclusive group...
The link to the Cohen article doesn't work. Hopefully the one below will. If not, cutting and pasting should work. It's really worth reading the whole thing.

You're right: toleration just to show how diverse we are is stupid. He should have been out on his a** much sooner.
THanks, Primrose. I had an errant space in the code.
No gays in heaven - oh no -- who would want to go to such a boring place - it would be more the "other place"
It could not be fabulous. Just sayin'. :)
Will there be homophobes in heaven?
Here's the thing about tolerance:
The fact that we allow people the choice to be absolute idiots, with no grasp of reality if they so choose, is tolerance. Don't believe it? Do you think the right-wing nuts would - or do - simply let us be wrong (in their opinion), if we so choose, or do they try to force us to change?
These people could behave like sane, rational humans, but choose a subhuman way of thinking and responding. We let them, while treasuring their potential.
That's as far as tolerance should go. When you start "tolerating" their harmful actions and incompetence at just being civilized, then you stepped into the realm of moral dereliction and culpability.
