Sauce for the goose

Or, turn about is fair play.

From The Times:
The Times has learnt that talks are already under way about forging permanent links between liberal parishes in England and The Episcopal Church, rather as the conservatives have linked up through the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans and related bodies. A new US Episcopal Church outpost in London is also being considered, should any liberal parishes in England wish to affiliate with The Episcopal Church in the US in the way that many conservative US parishes have affiliated with evangelical provinces in Africa and the Southern Cone.

Of course there is no source for this last, which sounds suspiciously like someone is stirring things up.

As much as I like the idea of stronger links and support between TEC and liberal parishes in CoE, I have to ask the burning question: How will this be substantively different from -- and therefore more ethical and justifiable than -- the border crossings of conservative provinces that most people have been condemning (or at least tut-tutting about) for so long?

It's not. at least, not the part about "outposts in London". Which seems doubtful in a time of economic retrenchment.

Which rather leads you to wonder from whom the Times learnt it, whether it's true....and what the motive was.

Having read the whole article it is classic Ruth Gledhill, more of an editorial posing as journalism than as an act of genuine journalism. The title alone communicates her bias and her assumptions. The last paragraph is speculative at best and since it does not even try to cite a source it is simply gossip.

Stirring the pot? I think I'll update.

Salt Lake,

Yep, that's our Ruth all right...

I agree with it being pure speculation. The most I would expect would be unofficial 'twinning' arrangements.

The US Episcopal church might have something for ex-pats but only with the consent of the local CoE diocese. Grosvenor Chapel near the US Embassy could fit that description but it is CoE (with one American born and raised priest). I suspect some US military chaplains in the UK might be TEC, but, they hardly count.

I've been warning the ABC that this could happen for months, maybe over a year, but he didn't listen to me.

Our leaders are probably too nice to do it.
