Formal Split for Anglicans in North America

Traditionalist Anglicans are to formally announce that they are setting up a new church in the US and Canada.

The move will make the long-discussed split in the Anglican Church in North America a reality.

It means in each country there will be two competing churches, both claiming allegiance to the Anglican Communion.

I could announce that I'm setting up a Church too, but does that make it so?

Oh foo(L): EVERY schismatic group splitting from TEC for the past *40 years* has claimed "allegiance to the Anglican Communion".

Doesn't mean that "allegiance" means a bucket of warm spit. >:-/

[TEC's death has been grossly predicted/exaggerated for SO LONG, who can keep count?]

Oh I agree. Every break-away sect from TEC since what ? The Reformed Episcopal Church back in the 19th cent. ? has claimed to be "more Anglican than thou" ;)

These guys are just another addition to that alphabet soup. And as for whether the real, for-true Anglican Communion recognizes them or not - I really couldn't care less to be honest :P I'm getting heartily sick of "Anglican" anything. It's turned into a word for haters as far as I'm concerned (yes, I know this annoys JCF to no end, but we'll just have to agree to disagree on that bit :)

Tell us about your church, IT. We might be interested!

I bet tolerance is one of the first principles!

Interesting strategy, trying to set themselves up as an alternative church rather than alternative province.

It won't give them any more members, or make the legal battle any different over church property. They will lose many if not all of the property battles. They won't be recognized by the ABC. On the other hand, the power of Canterbury is symbolic, not real, and Williams has squandered it, and Gafcon will be a rival, though with how many followers will soon be seen.

The New York Times has a good article on it.

Duncan as Archbishop! Hilarious.

Duncan said it is not a new province or a new church -- it is the ONLY Anglican presence in North America. He said that TEC and the ACoC is already dead. Read it all on my blog. It's really comical, in a way.

The church of IT:
1) Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
2) See (1).
3) In all things, charity.
4) When in doubt, be generous. This includes stating your opinions, being judgmental, and paying taxes. If you can afford it, pay more. See (3).
5) Love is precious. There isn't much of it in this world. It should be nurtured, protected, and supported.
5) If you can't say something nice about someone, your mother was right: it's better not to say anything. Except teenagers. Parents are allowed to whinge about their teenagers to other adults.
6) If it doesn't affect you directly, it's probably none of your business. See (3).

That's my start.

Oh Goodness, luckyboy...Duncan has finally found his much-preached/stewed about, restricted, muy privado, PLACE TO STAND (ah the Promised Land?)...soon Duncan, Iker and the lot will discover that the SPACE PLACE must be THEIRS LEGALLY before this cast of excluding destructionist groupies POACH there endlessly...amongst other selective Scriptural self-righteous illusions, thievery, coveting and bigotry must be confronted and FACED HEAD ON!

Sorry Boyz, no more playing of ¨dress-up¨ Anglicanlike PRETEND!

Canterbury rejected this move outright. Wow! Is this a fit of decisiveness for a change?

Lambeth Palace responds to Common Cause Partnership announcement
December 04, 2008

[Episcopal News Service] A spokesperson for Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams has responded to the Common Cause Partnership's December 3 release of a provisional constitution and canons that outline the formation of what they are calling a new Anglican province in North America.
"There are clear guidelines set out in the Anglican Consultative Council Reports, notably ACC 10 in 1996 (resolution 12), detailing the steps necessary for the amendments of existing provincial constitutions and the creation of new provinces," the spokesperson said. "Once begun, any of these processes will take years to complete. In relation to the recent announcement from the meeting of the Common Cause Partnership in Chicago, the process has not yet begun."

Roger, read my post on The Three Legged Stool. This isn't the statement many wish it to be. It says nothing and was intended to say nothing. Lambeth Palace had to say something so they said "no comment" in that wonderful English manner. :)

Oh, oh, my dear, sweet, lovely IT.

Once again I feel that, if I kept quiet, "the stones themselves would sing out":

You.Are.Such.An.Episcopalian!

(Simply a better-than-average one ;-/)

yeah, but JCF: No flying spaghetti monsters or pink unicorns. No, erm, incipient cannibalism. (I jest, of course, but only slightly!) the point is no big daddy upstairs is required for the church of IT.

I can promise you, that in TEC, there will be no flying spaghetti monsters or pink unicorns ("big daddy upstairs" still depends on the parish, but shouldn't be a problem in San Diego!)

Erm, re incipient cannibalism? All I can say is . . . works for me!

[Like I said before: it's the same reason vampire movies pack 'em in. Scary Good! ;-)]

Hey now! No dissin' the Flying Spaghetti Monster! Having felt the touchy of his noodley appendages, I now keep an icon of him on my wall at work (OK, it's just a cheap Xerox - but it'll have to do until Tobias draws me a decent one ;)

Got me a FSM t-shirt, too.

...and I thought "Flying Spaghetti Monster" was just some deity that IT pulled out of her...

Clearly, I need to get out more.

{WTF???}

Wikipedia is your friend JCF. You may even see FSM stickers on the back of the car (it evolved, a-hem, from Jesus fish). Make sure you also search for "invisible Pink Unicorn". Notice the paradox of being both invisible and pink....
