A Prayer for Election Day

Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ---TEC Book of Common Prayer (1979), p. 822

Now go out there and vote. And don't vote your fears, vote your hopes. As Blessed Julian of Norwich reminds us, "You will see yourself that every kind of thing will be well...Accept it now in faith and trust, and in the very end you will see truly, in fullness of joy"

I feel sick to my stomach.

I've been out of town on business and am about to get on a plane wearing my "No on Prop 8" t-shirt. As soon as I land, I'll be heading to the No-on-8 HQ to see what I can do to help.

I suspect I'm not the only one holding you and BP in my heart today.

No, Elizabeth, many of us are offering prayers for IT&BP and all the justice minded Californians.

Well, the No on 8 campaign didn't want me because I hadn't been through mandatory training because I was out of town. They didn't even want me to deliver water to the approve volunteers, or do any errands, or anything. They send me home. So I went home to work on a grant, where I was disturbed by robocalls from the Yes on 8 campaign.

So please, someone, tell me what the No on 8 people did with $33million since everywhere I go I see YEs on 8 ads, but none of ours?

SOOOOOooooo depressed...

You're guess is as good as mine, IT. I worked the "NO" booths for several weeks and it was always with the same people. If we received $1 from that 33 million, I don't know about it.

As for the robo calls, I have had at least 50 in the last three days.

We can still pray, IT. There are three or four hours of voting still to go. I certainly hope I don't wake up back in the 1950s in the morning.

IT - sitting here at about 1:00 a.m. Eastern time, I see there a small percentage of votes in.

I am praying that your results situation is much like ours in Virginia...the smaller counties can get their results in faster, and they are much more conservative. That 25% reporting isn't a good representation of a quarter of the population, because it doesn't reflect anything from the heavily populated metro areas.

Basically what Lynn said. I'm calling it a night after a long day and I am praying I wake up to some really good news about prop 8.

I attended a "music" night in a small hamlet about 1/2 hour away the other night - very conservative country with a bit of Dodge City thrown in. Anyway, one woman stood up to sing some wedding song (actually the song wasn't that bad). But before she started singing she started talking about how marriage should only be as our Lord described it - between a man and a woman. And then she added that it should also be how he described it - with the man as the head of the household.

My younger son was with me. He tells me he looked at my face, which was perfectly straight but that there was a tick beside my mouth. Needless to say that when she asked for an Amen she certianly didn't get it from me on both counts. I gave a definite no - although I have to admit that in that crowd it wasn't exactly shouted out with gusto. Actually, there really wasn't a rousing Amen from everyone either. Maybe there's hope yet.

Love and Prayers,
Ann Marie

So far I am quite disappointed because it looks as though Prop 8 is getting a "yes" vote. These are early returns and I hope there is a change. It seemed to me that the "no" campaign was the more reasonable and honest. I am not surprised at the San Joaquin Valley, but I am surprised at the whole of California.

Congratulation. To us all!

Let's not give up on defeating 8 yet. I woke up at 4 this morning and went right to the computer. It is still too close to call. I spoke with my gay nephew last night and he told me of how he was called names as he stood out in public with a NO on 8 sign. While I am thrilled that the Dems are back in control, and I support larger cages for chickens, I am shocked that we as a state cannot give our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters equal rights.

I am reading that there are a great number of absentee ballots that could turn the tide. Been thinking of IT and BP all night, hoping and praying that this will turn out right.

David G -- You made me laugh my tea all over the lap top. Thank you for that my friend. Indeed, Satan does work in odd ways.
