IT is getting married

Dear Friends,
Tomorrow, Oct 12, your token atheist IT and her beloved partner (BP) will marry each other in a civil service in California. In all meaningful personal respects, we have been married for years, but we are seizing the opportunity to marry legally in the eyes of the State. You might call it "claiming the blessing" ;-). I'll be away for awhile on a honeymoon, where I plan to avoid the internet.

I am confident in the support of all my friends here at Friends-of-Jake's. If you feel the urge to commemorate our happy event, please leave me a note in the comments! We are also asking friends to consider donations to the No on Prop 8 campaign (because we would like our marriage to be legal after Nov 4th), or Feeding America, aka America's Second Harvest, to feed the hungry in these hard economic times.

Over at Susan Russell's blog, Susan posted this amazing poem a while back, which BP and I find very resonant. I'll leave you with that, and thank you in advance for your good wishes for me and my dearest beloved. I'll see you in ten days or so.
Touched by an Angel

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.

Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.

We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love's light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.

Love to both of you!

I always remind couples I wed (for in Sweden it is the Performer, Judge/Priest, who weds the couple) that it is w o r k involved in making a marriage work.

The fellowship takes work to work.

May your continuing relationship only be strengthened by the legal status!

Sending you and BP so much love and joy, so many good wishes.

You are a remarkable person IT and I am sure BP is as well.

Peace and great happiness to you on this day and always.

Why is it we say "congratulations" to a man about to be married or just newly mairred and "best wishes" to a woman in the same situations? Must be racist.

IT my dear friend, I cannot be happier for you and your beloved. All God's blessings for tomorrow and on the reast of your life together.

Watch over thy children, O Lord, as their days increase; bless and guide them wherever they may be. Strengthen them when they stand; comfort them when discouraged or sorrowful; raise them up if they fall; and in their hearts may thy peace which Passeth understanding abide all the days of their life together; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

May you enjoy many years as a married couple and be a blessing to all around you.

Congratulations to you both! May you live long and happy together. I made the donation and thought of y'all as I was doing it! They wouldn't let me dedicate it to you, but it was.

Tomorrow is my sainted mother's birthday and her wedding anniversary. I'm sure she would be happy to know that you are sharing it with her in this way.

Dear IT and BP, I was about to make the donation in honor of a couple of dear friends and I will now make it in honor or them AND you (and another couple whose love is a real witness in the world). May you live together in joy for years and years and years, and may we all live long years to honor and celebrate your love!

It's me, Grace.

Heard about your up coming wedding from JCF.

Had to pop over here to say, "Best wishes, and every blessing to you, and BP." Wish I could be there with dancin shoes on. :)

Love,

Do we? Well, I offer my "congratulations" AND my "best wishes" to you both! [And prayers, which BP at least will appreciate]

Sorry I couldn't be there in person. May you and BP see me (in my tux *g*) at MY wedding! [Oh, Ms. Right, where are you? :-/ FWIW, I love this time of year, and would love to get married around this date. Maybe you and BP could celebrate your 2nd or 3rd---as you will, Lord, but hurry!---anniversary at my nuptials? Just a blessed thought... ;-)]

Mazel Tov!

What a joy that I happened over here on your wedding day. May the two of you receive many blessings, much joy, and long years together.

I'll be back in this neck of the woods once the election is safely completed. Meanwhile I'm blogging like the dickens for a good cause.

My wife and I made a donation today, and hope that our state (NJ), the state where my daughter and her partner live (NY), and the entire country move to allow full equality for all couples wishing to marry!
