Fresh Air

Did anyone hear Terry Gross on Fresh Air interview Katharine Jefferts Schori today? I didn't hear the whole thing, but she comes across as a very practical, sensible person.

They also ran a snippet of an interview with Duncan of Pittsburgh in which he smarmily commented that "same sex affectiveness" was clearly disordered. I would have loved to ask him what other medical advances and understandings he rejects. What an unpleasant man.

I listened to it all - she was great - we can work on full inclusion AND help the world. It is all of a piece. You can listen to it at the Fresh Air web site.
Yes - Duncan was smarmy. I don't get why people follow him and think he is so great. Terry Gross picked out a quote that reflected his own "disorder"

"Smarmy" and "unpleasant" pretty much covers it for all of the self-important leaders of this movement. At least that I've had any experience of... :P

As I remember, there's something in that book they're always going on about which talks about not getting figs from a thistle or some such allusion.

Makes one wonder what sort of organization would grow from the leadership of such people.

Terry Gross asked some good and challenging questions. Personally, I was most impressed by PB Katharine's clear and unambiguous affirmation of the full divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ as The Son of God. Has the PB not been repeatedly called a heretic - and worse - by TEC-hectorers on this issue? Yet I don't anticipate an apology to her in my diocesan newspaper any time soon. Her words could be greatly reassuring to the moderate & conservative people in our pews spoon fed a steady diet of "loving Jesus = hating TEC and all its works". I hope I'm not the only person to see this as huge. Bloggers?

Eileen: The PB-bashers are having a high old time on the comment section of the NPR link. Hard to believe we listened to the same interview. It's plain to me that they despise her.

IT (and all readers) - Terry Gross has a great reputation, never hesitate to tune in on one of her shows if the topic interests you. Bill O'Reilly despises her...he walked out on an interview with her (a real first, this woman is known as probing but fair).

I second Lynn's opinion of Terry Gross.

If that loathsome twit O'Reilly despises her, it's just one more feather in her cap as far as I'm concerned ;)
