Come together now

Up in Northern California, the state has erupted into firestorms, terrible to behold.  Fires make their own weather but these have gone beyond what is known, expanding explosively and destroying land, homes, businesses.  Firemen have died or been injured, as have members of the public.

Southern California has been partly spared, perhaps because the burgeoning El Niño weather phenomenon has led to unusual summer monsoonal moisture that has dampened the landscape here.  Not enough to change years of drought, and we are still in danger, but perhaps enough to give us a little protection from the hot, crisp fuel along the hills that our northern siblings have missed.

Climate change and global warming.... photographs on facebook of an emaciated polar bear, or a crippled sun bear.  We burn up our planet while billionaires pay to foment suspicion and conspiracy theories.  Yet the billionaires have families too.  Do they really believe that destroying the environment for the sakeof a few billion more is worth the investment of their children's future?

It's hubris, pure and simple. To the extent they don't believe their own denialism, they figure that, as long as their children inherit their billions, they'll be able to buy their way out of actually SUFFERING for any climate change (Extinct species? Phooey, that's what pictures/taxidermy are for.)
