Job Creators

Although my politics are liberal, I'm not a socialist.  I think there's a lot to be said for letting people create jobs.  My father, who was an old-style Republican, ran a small business. He worked very hard.  He worried about getting his employees health care and at times would cut his own salary to keep things afloat (and he didn't make much salary).  He felt a responsibility to the people who worked for him.  By the time he died, he no longer identified as Republican because he no longer recognized the Republicans.

We all heard that because of a strike, Hostess Brands has decided to go bankrupt.  What wasn't quite so clear was that the executives cleaned up before they did so. From ThinkProgress:
While the company was filing for bankruptcy, for the second time, earlier this year, it actually tripled its CEO’s pay, and increased other executives’ compensation by as much as 80 percent.
And underfunded the Pension to boot. Creditors viewed this as a way to hide assets.  It was all a stratagy of "vulture capitalists"-- similar to the way Mitt Romney made his fortune.

But eliminating jobs to make rich people richer is what Republicans have become. That's not job creation.  Those aren't the values I learned from my dad.  This is worship of money for its own sake. And really, how much do you need?
