A gay couple who were jailed in Malawi have been pardoned by President Bingu wa Mutharika.
Mr Mutharika, speaking as UN chief Ban Ki-moon visited Lilongwe, said he had ordered their immediate release.
Steven Monjeza, 26, and Tiwonge Chimbalanga, 20, were given 14-year jail terms after being convicted of gross indecency and unnatural acts.

Good but will they be able to find asylum in another country so they can be together and safer?
Praise be to God, from whom all blessings flow!
Yes, Praise be to God!
This is a major step forward, instead of the backlash American anti Gay extreemists were plotting...
This effectively puts an end to their use of African nations (who still have the English 19th century anti Gay laws on their books) as a Laboratory, a Pilot Project for Hate and Persecution.
I'm w/ Erp.
Remembering the Jim Crow South, it was usually when black folk were let OUT of jail, that they were in the MOST danger! :-0
Please, let's get them OUT of Malawi, to safety---then throw them the Big Gay Wedding they so richly deserve!
I'm with Erp too. It was my first thought --Oh God.... may they find protection. Swiftly.
Mr Mutharika, speaking as UN chief Ban Ki-moon visited Lilongwe...
And for this reason, the Archbishop of Nigeria (Anglican---putatively :-X) is now calling for Nigeria to quit the United Nations!!! :-O
I swear, you can't make this sh*t up...
Thank God for this. And it seems God was able even to use the U.S. House of Reps. and the U.N. ... but apparently one of God's churches (South Africa). But not TEC's leadership, and certainly not His Rowanship. Sad, that.
